Choosing a staircase is a key home design decision, since your stairs should serve your aesthetical preferences while still being accessible to everyone, young and old alike.

The most common types of stairs include:

L-Shaped

The Spiral Shaped

V-Shaped

L-shaped staircases are small and are often used in smaller homes, where the optimal use of existing space is a primary concern. (pictured right)

The Spiral Shaped staircases are the most complicated type of stairs, and require very skilled installers. They are not very common in most homes, a factor which adds to their elegance and beauty. However they can be undesirable if small children and the elderly are a concern.

The U shaped staircases (pictured bottom) are elegant and help to conserve space. They can also be designed to allow for a storage area beneath the stairs.
